Walk Notes

This was my first walk back with the Ramblers since the end of October, when quite annoyingly, my boots fell to bits! However, with this being a good few months away from doing the "B" walks, I decided to go back to the "C" walks until I have regained my fitness, and it break-in a new set of boots!.

We took the coach to a place named "Chestnut Hill" outside Keswick, from here we walked towards "Walla Crag", a modest sized fell at 1243 feet (379m). This was my second visit to the summit as the previous was in early March 2002. The views from the Summit of Walla Crag of Derwentwater are breathtaking. We then walked onto a small Village named "Watendlath" after we had our lunch-break at Ashness Bridge. HRH Prince Charles made a visit to Watendlath in 1995 where a pebble cemented into the floor of the small packhorse bridge is marked with his name and date. We had a short stop at Watendlath and then walked onto Rosthwaite, by this time the rain started to get very heavy --- and so the waterproofs came out!!

From Rosthwaite the walk was pretty non-descript as there was mostly road walking back to Seatoller.

I must say, even though it rained most of the day, it was still a very enjoyable walk with still quite a bit of snow on the fells which had fallen in the earlier part of the month.
