Walk Notes

After alighting the coach at Bassenthwaite Village it was decided that as the "A" party had no leader today (due to personal reasons), the "A" and "B" groups would merge for this walk. We walked from Bassenthwaite Village along 1.5 miles of road to Orthwaite, we then began the ascent of Great Cockup by way of Little Cockup. The climb was reasonably easy but a little steep. We eventually passed the summit of Little Cockup and then ascended towards Great Cockup. A very impressive mist clung onto the Skiddaw group as we walked. This was the first walk I had took in this area and it reminded me a lot of the Howgill Fells by appearance. We eventually arrived at the summit of Great Cockup and stayed for our lunch, I spent the time admiring the rounded hills, and the view of Over Water with Latrigg and Binsey in the distance (which I was told the Ramblers have never visited!). After lunch we then descended Great Cockup at Trusmadoor and went up onto Meal Fell (of which the cairn I thought was huge!). We then walked onto Great Sca Fell, and then descended down Roughton Gill, to Fell Side and then to Caldbeck. The only thing I would say was a problem with this walk was the very boggy terrain, but on the whole, a lovely walk!.
